WHAT’S NEW Federal Election Results – October 14, 2008 Ponoka, Alberta: Tonight Blaine Calkins, MP for Wetaskiwin, was re-elected to represent the Conservative Party of Canada with an overwhelming 32,528 votes, a 77.1 percentage of votes cast. “I am honored to have been chosen to represent the constituents of Wetaskiwin in the upcoming 40th Parliament of Canada. Although the nationwide results were not what we all hoped for, we have a strengthened Conservative minority government under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Harper and I will continue to work hard to take your views and concerns to Ottawa where they will be heard loud and clear in the House of Commons.” “I am extremely proud of the hard work of my campaign team, volunteers and donors and am most grateful for their help. I would like to acknowledge my opponents; Tim Robson of the NDP, Les Parsons of the Green Party, Rita Dillon of the Liberal Party and Shawn Mann of the CAP for their contribution to the democratic process.” Mr. Calkins went on to say, “But most of all I would like to thank you the voters, for doing your patriotic duty and voting.” -30-
